the week in tech

Microsoft announced earlier this week the release of Windows Live Writer, which I am using to create and publish this post. Seattle PI has a good summary here. (And, my own first impression is extremely favorable. -- Way to go Windows Live team.)

Google is also scrambling to update its Blogger software. Its one of the most popular blogging tools out there, but has become increasingly antiquated in the face of competition from Windows Live, SixApart, and others. Still in beta, but it look promising. I've toyed with it a little, but my blogger blogs are not yet eligible to be switched to the beta for some reason.

In other Google news: The company is worried (and not without reason) about the integrity of its trademark. Ironic as it may seem, the company wants people to stop "googling."

Lawrence Lessig on copyright law and Creative Commons licensing.

Suse (Linux) on a Lenovo ThinkPad.

The newest Segways. (I still really want one. And a scooter. And a Mini Cooper. And a Volkswagen camper. And a new bike.)

Happy 25th birthday (sort of) to the PC. And happy 50th to the hard drive. Are mobile and portable the next frontier?

Amazon may be learning more about us (its customers) than we'd ever wish.

And, finally, a must-read on Wikipedia.
