Pop vs. Soda

Do you want a soda with that?

A Pop?

A coke?

How about a tonic?

I can never remember who calls it what, but having lived in a variety of places across the country, I have noticed real regional differences in how one generally refers to sweetened carbonated beverages.

And I did have a friend in college who grew up calling it tonic.

I just came across a great site that tries to bring some analysis to the question: http://popvssoda.com:2998/. You can even add a datum to the sample.

There is also a county-by-county overview, seen below.
