In 2008, Will It Be Mormon in America?

Weekly Standard article on a potential Mitt Romney presidential run, and what it might look like for a moderate, LDS, Massachusetts governor to run for the office: In 2008, Will It Be Mormon in America?

Also a link to Chris Williams' post on the subject: Mitt Romney, Mormonism and the Presidency

With Chris, I've long thought that the first LDS president would likely be a Democrat, as the "Christian right" would likely pillory an LDS Republican candidate and an LDS Democrat could put together a compelling electoral coalition. That said, Governor Romney would be a strong contender and, in my opinion, would have more than a fighting chance.

We're just into Presdient G.W. Bush's second term, but already you can hear keyboards clicking as presidential politics begin to play out in back rooms, and fund-raisers, across the country....
