NPR : Figures on Chinese Engineers Fail to Add Up
Fascinating essay on NPR this morning: I'm sure you've seen/read/heard the oft-quoted statistic that the US graduates only 70,000 engineers each year, compared with 600,000+ engineers in other parts of the world. Apparently, the numbers don't necessarily add up. Do we need to do more to foster math and sciences in the U.S.? Absolutely. Is the situation as dire as everyone suspects? Perhaps not (though I would content that it is still critical).... It's audio, well worth the listen.
