Million Dollar Baby

I watched "Million Dollar Baby" last night and must give it an enthusiastic thumbs-up. (It won Best Picture, I know, so you probably don't need my opinion, but I finally just got around to seeing it.) It is not a light film, but beautifully and powerfully done.

Morgan Freeman, Hilary Swank, and Clint Eastwood each turn out impressive perfomances, and the film as a whole is well written, well acted, and a great story. Like life, it does not tie up all the loose ends nicely, but therein lies much of its emotional resonance and gravity.

It is a great story about resilience, love, hard work, and -- ultimately -- compassion. "Everything in boxing is backwards."

Great movie. If you haven't seen it yet, it's worth renting.
