NCAA deems Utah's "Utes" nickname to be "hostile or abusive"

This may light up the Runnin' Utes' fan base. They've moved away from the "Runnin Utes" brand somewhat over the past few years (actual "mascot" is now a red-tailed hawk), but there's certainly a lot of local feeling for "the Utes." It will be interesting to see how this plays out, if at all.

I don't have the history, but I have a recollection of the University having reached some sort of understanding with local Ute Indian tribes on this matter some years ago.
